The airport, situated 2.5 miles to the southeast of Dubai, is operated by the Department of Civil Aviation. The main airport runway is 4,000 metres long with a surface made of asphalt.

Dubai International Airport is one of the world’s quickest growing airports, and by far the busiest one in the Gulf/Middle East area. Around 25 million travellers used Dubai airport last year, with a forecast in the region of 45 million within the next 20 years. Part of the airport’s growth is due to the attention to detail that is shown, which has been rewarded through winning the award for ‘World’s Best Airport’ three times and ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’ for the last 7 years.

A particular aspect of the airport that is always praised is the duty free shopping centre, with over 5,000 square metres of shopping space given over to it.

In addition the airport’s concourse has almost 30 bars and restaurants to choose from, providing a diversity of options that suit everyone.

Dubai International Airport operates flights via two terminals, with around eighty airlines providing flights to in excess of a hundred destinations worldwide, and with the rate of growth being enjoyed by the airport this number is sure to increase dramatically.

The majority of international carriers are based in Terminal 1, where over two hundred check in desks welcome travellers.
